Where Experience Meets Purpose
Second Nature Consulting grew naturally out of years of working directly with communities, landowners, and local governments on real environmental challenges. After spending my early career in watershed management, green infrastructure design, and public-facing environmental education, I saw a growing need for practical, approachable sustainability support—especially for people who want to do the right thing but aren’t sure where to start.
Throughout my work, I found myself bridging gaps: translating technical concepts into something a community group could use, turning stormwater data into clear solutions for a landowner, or helping organizations secure grants to make their projects possible. Over time, those experiences shaped a simple idea—sustainability shouldn’t feel overwhelming. It should feel second nature.
Second Nature Consulting was created to offer exactly that: grounded, science-based guidance that meets people where they are. This business is built on everything I’ve learned in the field and in classrooms, from hands-on conservation to community engagement. My goal is to provide support that is clear, collaborative, and genuinely useful—whether it’s designing green infrastructure concepts, assisting with grant needs, or helping communities understand their landscapes.
What started as a collection of experiences has become a mission: making sustainability accessible, doable, and meaningful for everyone I work with.
Hello I'm Hannah Allen, a sustainability practitioner with a passion for helping people understand and care for the landscapes they live in. My background spans watershed management, green infrastructure design, environmental education, and community-centered conservation—giving me the flexibility to support landowners, nonprofits, and local governments in a practical, hands-on way.
I’ve managed watershed and sustainability programs, assessed stormwater and erosion issues, and helped implement best management practices that improve water quality. I enjoy designing native planting plans, rain gardens, and bioswale concepts that balance ecological impact with everyday usability.
Teaching and community engagement are also a big part of my work. I’ve led workshops, STEM programs, and conference presentations that make complex environmental topics accessible and interesting for all kinds of audiences.
I frequently support projects through grant research, proposal writing, and outreach strategy—helping organizations secure resources and build momentum for conservation and sustainability initiatives.
At the core of everything I do is a belief in practical, approachable sustainability. I focus on solutions that are rooted in science, shaped by community needs, and designed for long-term resilience. Whether I’m planning a project or teaching a new skill, my goal is always to make sustainable choices feel clear, achievable, and empowering.
